Microchanneling is a minimally invasive skin treatment that typically requires little downtime. Most individuals can return to normal activities immediately or within a few hours after the procedure. However some mild redness, welling, or irritation may occur for up to 24-48 hours post-treatment, similar to mild sunburn.

1. Avoid Sun Exposure

At least 3–5 days before treatment: Avoid excessive sun exposure and tanning beds to prevent sunburn or skin irritation. If you must go outside, apply a high-SPF sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) to protect your skin.

2. Discontinue Use of Certain Skincare Products

Stop Retinoids/Retinol: Discontinue the use of retinoids (e.g., Retin-A, Tretinoin) or retinol products 3–5 days before treatment. These can make your skin more sensitive and prone to irritation.
Avoid Acidic Products: Avoid products containing alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs), or other exfoliating agents like glycolic acid, salicylic acid, or benzoyl peroxide for about 3–5 days before treatment.

3. Avoid Blood Thinners

Avoid Aspirin, Ibuprofen, and Blood Thinners: If possible, stop taking blood thinners (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen, certain supplements) 5–7 days before treatment to reduce the risk of bruising or bleeding.

4. Come With Clean Dry Hair

Arrive with clean hair. Avoid using hair sprays, gels, or other styling products on the day of the treatment. If your hair is short, shave the day before if necessary to allow easier access to the scalp and to minimize discomfort.

3. Gentle Cleansing

First 24 hours: Cleanse the treated area gently with lukewarm water and a mild, non-exfoliating cleanser. Avoid harsh scrubbing or any exfoliating products.

4. Don’t Pick or Scratch

Avoid picking, rubbing, or scratching the treated area.

5. Stay Away from Heat and Hot Water

Avoid hot showers, baths, or hot tubs for 48 hours post-treatment.

6. Use Hydrating or Healing Serums (If Recommended)

For scalp microchanneling (hair rejuvenation), your practitioner may recommend the use of specific serums, or growth factors to promote faster hair regrowth and follicle healing.

7. Limit Activities That May Irritate the Scalp

After microchanneling for hair rejuvenation, avoid tight hats, ponytails, or scalp massages for 24–48 hours to reduce irritation or pressure on the scalp.

8. Monitor for Adverse Reactions

Observe any unusual reactions, such as excessive redness, swelling, or discomfort. If you experience any signs of infection (such as pus, severe redness, or fever), contact your practitioner immediately.

Microchanneling is a great option for individuals seeking non-invasive treatments. However, certain individuals—such as those with skin infections, or uncontrolled health conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes, active skin conditions, or autoimmune disease—should avoid this procedure or consult a healthcare provider first.
